Friend:
How was your Thanksgiving? Personally, I’m still recovering from having 20 members of my husband’s lovely but large family join our family of five, so I’ll keep this brief! I want to share some important insights from AU’s public opinion research, which I discussed in my recent Church & State column.
Here’s one of my favorite takeaways: Sixty percent of the country says that protecting the separation of religion and government is either one of the most important things to them personally or very important. That’s right – a supermajority of Americans are with us.
The poll also gave us a clear idea of what messages resonate the most with a broad array of Americans – data that we have enjoyed sharing with allied organizations, Capitol Hill allies and our activists around the country.
Friend, what we learned confirmed that the Trump administration has sharply diverged from what the American public values: religious freedom for all of us, not just for some of us. That’s yet another reason why it’s essential for us to defend this bedrock principle every time it comes under attack.
Giving Tuesday is just around the corner, and we are meeting this special day with the help of a generous $50,000 AU donor-matching fund. Every gift made through December 3 will be doubled, and every dollar will help us protect religious freedom in the year ahead.
If you haven’t already, please consider giving an early matched Giving Tuesday gift to protect religious freedom today.
With hope and determination,
