An alarming number of draconian anti-choice bills have been introduced around the country – 541 in 42 states this year alone. And the Supreme Court is on the verge of overturning Roe v. Wade, putting abortion access at risk nationwide.

Here in Michigan, we could be weeks away from having one of the most extreme anti-abortion laws in the country if Roe is overturned.

Team, make no mistake, I will always stand up for reproductive rights.

Right now, if Roe is overturned, abortion could become illegal in Michigan in nearly any circumstance – including in cases of rape and incest. That’s why I filed a lawsuit using my executive authority to urge the Michigan Supreme Court to immediately act to strike down one of the country’s most restrictive abortion laws. And it’s why I’ve directed state agencies to refuse to cooperate with any authority attempting to prosecute those who provide or assist those seeking an abortion.

But we need to double down today to ensure that reproductive rights are protected now and for generations to come. And the only way to do so is to elect pro-choice governors.

Governors are our last line of defense on the most important issues we face – from ensuring that reproductive freedoms aren’t erased to protecting the right to vote and investing in public education.
