John –
Today marks the 26th anniversary of when the Brady Bill was signed into law by President Clinton. This groundbreaking background check legislation has prevented more than 3.5 million illegal gun sales and saved countless lives — keeping guns out of the hands of people who were never meant to have them in the first place.
Still, there’s so much more to be done. On average, nearly 40,000 people die from gun violence each year – or about 100 people every day . We’ve heard about the horrific mass shootings making headlines, but mass shootings only account for about 2% of gun deaths every year. For some communities – communities that don’t make the news – it’s not a matter of if there will be a shooting; it’s a matter of when.
But I have hope, John, and it grows stronger and stronger every day I commit myself to this fight. In every corner of the map, people of all backgrounds, ages, and political affiliations are tired of waiting for our elected officials to protect us: We’re taking action to prevent gun violence and save as many lives as we can right now.
But we can’t win this fight without you. Right now, we’re counting on supporters like you to ensure no community has to endure the pain of gun violence. Will you give a gift of $5 to make sure we can continue to prevent gun violence and save lives? [[link removed]]
Thank you for all that you do to help Brady take action.
It’s in our hands now.
