With the primary elections and runoffs finally over, here are some important dates to keep in mind as we continue throughout the year.

Party Conventions Every two years, both the Republican and Democrat state parties will hold conventions where grassroots delegates will elect their party’s leadership and make changes to their platform and priorities.

The Republican Party of Texas Convention will be held June 16-18 in Houston.

The Democrat Party of Texas Convention will be held July 14-16 in Dallas.

Two years ago, in 2020, both parties held virtual conventions. General Election The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Anyone who is registered to vote by Tuesday, October 11, is eligible to participate in the election.

Early voting runs from Oct. 24 through Nov. 4. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Bill Prefiling Almost as soon as the elections are over, returning and new state lawmakers can begin filing legislation. Often, the earlier a bill is filed, the greater chance it has of being passed.

Prefiling of bills in the House and Senate begins on Monday, November 14. The Legislature Returns The state Legislature will return next year to begin a 140-day legislative session. Barring any special sessions called by the governor, this is the only opportunity every two years for legislation to be passed.

The 88th Legislative Session begins on Tuesday, January 10. Quote-Unquote
