Dear Patriot,
Many years ago, my father told me about his experiences fighting during the Battle of the Bulge.
My Dad spoke glowingly about General Omar Bradley and many of the fellow soldiers who he fought alongside with during some of the most difficult days of that battle.
At one point in the conversation, my Dad said to me he was a very lucky man because he got a million dollar wound when he was fighting. He was shot through the calf earning a Purple Heart, but while off the line for some time, he considered himself very fortunate.
He then talked about his friends who didn’t make it and how many people he knew who died giving everything for our country.
On this Memorial Day, we honor the memory of those who gave everything to our nation. I also thank my Dad and Mom for teaching me about the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It’s a beautiful day here in Charleston, West Virginia. Today, I can’t help but think of all of the families who have lived through so much hardship after one of their family members didn’t return home from war.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend. I will always remember their sacrifice and do my best to honor their memories.
