John, today, I am remembering the brave Americans who we have lost in service to our country, and their loving families who are left behind.
I come from a family who respects the meaning of service to others. That's why I committed my life to service and became a registered nurse. It's how I raised my kids, too – my son and his wife are serving our country as Marines. It's hard to put into words the incredible pride that I feel watching them make such a deep and meaningful sacrifice.

To the Americans who have lost a loved one in service to our country, I stand with you. As someone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, I understand the deep grief you feel when someone you love is gone far too soon.

Words can never fill the gaping hole left by someone who has died fighting for our country. But I hope that we can provide some sense of peace and healing by honoring those lost in service so that we never forget their legacy, their bravery, and the love that they gave to so many of us.

With gratitude and sincere well-wishes,
