Today we turn our thoughts to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service of their nation. Their courage and dedication to our nation led them to become immortalized in our national story.

 

To the families missing loved ones who died in the line of duty, to the combat veterans who lost friends they fought with on the frontlines, I am in awe of the sacrifice you have made.

 

I hope we can all take inspiration from those who have fallen in service of this nation, that we might seek to emulate their courage, their devotion, and their commitment to defending America and her values. It is a standard we may only aspire to – but also a standard we must aspire to as we seek to defend our democracy.
