Today we pause to honor our fallen men and women in uniform. The price that many have paid for our freedom should never be taken for granted, especially on this somber day.
We are the land of the free because of the brave, a sacred truth that distinguishes America from the rest of the world. The exceptionalism of America was bought on the battlefield, and we ought to pay that sacrifice forward each and every single day. 
To those who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, I salute you and thank you for the sacrifice that you have undoubtedly made as well.
A dark shadow is cast on this holiday, but this day also gives us the opportunity to celebrate so many courageous heroes.
