Newsroom employment in the U.S. has dropped by 25% over the past decade

Majorities of U.S. adults say the federal government is doing too little for key aspects of the environment, from protecting water or air quality to reducing the effects of climate change. About six-in-ten say climate change is affecting their local community either a great deal or some. Still, partisans remain at odds over the causes of climate change and the effects of policies to address it.

|
About a third of Millennial and Gen Z Republicans (ages 18 to 38) say human activity contributes a great deal to climate change, more than double the 14% of Republicans in older generations who say this. And roughly half of younger adult Republicans say they see some effects of global climate change in their own communities, compared with 32% of older Republicans.

|
|
Under the Temporary Protected Status program, roughly 317,000 immigrants have time-limited permission to live and work in the U.S. after fleeing their home countries because of war, hurricanes, earthquakes or other extraordinary conditions. TPS protections for most of these immigrants were set to expire in early 2020 but have recently been extended to 2021.

Americans and Germans continue to have notably different perspectives on the relationship between their countries. Americans are optimistic about the bilateral relationship and want to cooperate more with Germany in the future. Germans, for their part, see the relationship as strained.

|
|
America’s newsrooms are changing in important ways. Mergers, closures and layoffs have affected a variety of media organizations – especially newspapers – and these trends are reshaping the nation’s media landscape.
|
|
|
|
Americans are most likely to mention family when asked in an open-ended question what makes their lives meaningful. One-third bring up their career or job, nearly a quarter mention finances or money, and one-in-five cite their religious faith, friendships, or hobbies and activities.
