Dear John,

Today is Small Business Saturday. Created as a counter to the mass consumerism rush that is Black Friday, it’s a day to celebrate and invest in our local communities.

Small businesses are getting squeezed by skyrocketing rents, and we have a chance to do something about it.

Sign the petition for commercial rent stabilization today.

Thanks for standing up for our community,

Brad

Dear John,

It’s no secret that small businesses are struggling to pay rent. The boarded up storefronts and empty windows we walk past every day remind us of how skyrocketing rents are squeezing local businesses out of our communities.

Over 1000 people have already signed our petition for commercial rent stabilization. This week, as many of us are reflecting on and celebrating the communities and relationships we are grateful for, will you sign the petition to help the local businesses that make up our neighborhoods survive and thrive? Small businesses are often a ticket to upward mobility for immigrants, institutions that make up the fabric of their neighborhoods. When the rent gets too high, we lose not only the stores and restaurants, but the jobs, people, and cultures that make up the unique characters of each of our neighborhoods.

Commercial rent stabilization that will help preserve the local stores, restaurants and community institutions that make our neighborhoods feel like home.

Last year when we fought to win historic rent reforms to protect tenants, naysayers claimed that regulating rents would harm very people we sought to support. The fear-mongering didn’t work. Tenants fought back and won historic protections that will keep tens of thousands of New York renters in their homes. We can do the same for the local stores that sustain our communities.

Saturday is “Small Business Saturday,” a day created to support local businesses in the wake of the corporate consumerism of Black Friday sales. Can you sign the petition to help us double the support for reining in soaring rents by Saturday? [[link removed]]
