Let's come together with Pride via PFLAG Connects: Communities

PFLAG Connects: Communities (PCC) provides virtual meetings for Black, Latino, and Asian American and Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones, with facilitators from some of our incredible chapters across the country. 

For Pride month, we are excited to welcome three faith leaders from the Black, Latino, and AAPI communities to speak to our families for our Pride edition PCC meetings. Our meetings are coming up in the next two weeks, as follows:

• PCC: Latino Community | Thursday, June 2 at 9pm ET/6pm PT
• PCC: Asian American & Pacific Islander Community | Saturday, June 4th at 6pm ET/3pm PT
• PCC: Black/African American Community | Tuesday, June 14th at 9pm ET/6pm PT

If you have not yet shared PCC with your networks, this is the perfect time to do so! If there are folks in your chapters who are part of one of these communities and would like an opportunity to speak to experts in the faith space, please share this resource with them. Three Steps to Being A Better Ally for Pride Month

Pride month kicks off this Wednesday. It’s a great time to dig into PFLAG National’s Straight for Equality resources to learn more about continuing on your ally journey.

1. Learn: Becoming a better ally is a journey that takes hard work, and we’re here to help you on your path! Visit straightforequality.org/allyspectrum to learn more about the ally spectrum and how allies and potential allies can take their next steps. Read the guide to being a straight ally, the guide to being a trans ally, and more Straight for Equality resources to learn more about LGBTQ+ people and issues and what you can do to support the community during Pride month and beyond.
2. Watch: Revisit PFLAG Academy Online sessions made specifically for allies, including So You Think You Can Ally? Advanced Ally Engagement Skills for PFLAG Chapters and What Would You Do? Tips and Tools for PFLAGers in Tough Situations to help create conversations about LGBTQ+ equality, manage moments of conflict, and more. Be sure to check out our Something To Talk About Live! series as well.
3. Share: Share all of our great Straight for Equality content above on social media. Then be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and ask others in your life to do the same. When they’re comfortable, have them download one of our Straight For Equality ally cards to fill out and post on their profiles!

We're going to make weekly calls into Senate offices to tell them we need federal anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people before Summer Recess. We need to make sure Senators hear from us--people who care about LGBTQ+ equality– saying we urge them to take action NOW. Even if your Senators are allies, call them, email them, and tweet them your thanks; they need to know that the majority of people in this country support protections from discrimination.

How Will YOU Celebrate Pride This Year?

After two years of postponed, canceled, and virtual-only Pride events, many people are excited to be back together to celebrate this year. Organizers in Rochester, MN reported that turnout nearly doubled at their Rochester Pride on May 21. More than 120,000 people attended the Belgian Pride Parade in Brussels this year.  

Join us this Thursday, June 2nd at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT for Something To Talk About Live, where we will be discussing Sarah Lemire’s article in Today, “What is Pride Month? Everything you need to know about the LGBTQ observance” with the staff of PFLAG National.
