As we rapidly approach the New Mexico primary election next week, here’s a quick rundown on the 2nd congressional district.

This House seat has only been represented by a Democrat for four out of the last 40 years. For decades, Republicans held a grip on this district — but that changed with the 2018 Blue Wave, when we elected Democratic champion and our campaign supporter, Rep. Xochitl Torres Small, the first woman to represent NM-02.

Unfortunately, our district flipped red again with the election of MAGA extremist Rep. Yvette Herrell, who began her far-right career in Congress by refusing to certify the 2020 presidential election results — not in New Mexico, but in Arizona and Pennsylvania, two states she does not represent.

For the past year and a half, Herrell has voted against her constituents’ best interests again and again, including opposing a cap on insulin costs, major investments in infrastructure and job creation, relief for the baby formula shortage, environmental protections and action on climate change, and a woman’s right to choose.

With a new map following redistricting, our district now has a +4 Democratic advantage, the first we’ve had in years. If we flip this seat from red to blue this November, we can hold this district for a decade — making this a truly historic opportunity.

This Tuesday is our campaign’s last fundraising deadline before voters head to the polls for the June 7 primary, which will determine if we make the November general election ballot to take on Herrell. Help us make history and flip NM-02 blue: chip in $10 or whatever you can now!
