John,
My name is Fred Guttenberg and I’m coming to you as a gun violence survivor: My daughter, Jaime, was murdered in her school in Parkland, FL, with an AR-15, just like 19 elementary school children and two teachers in Uvalde, TX.
These children will never grow up, like my daughter who will forever be 14 years old. Their parents will visit their children in a cemetery, like I have to. No one should have to experience this kind of grief, John, but because the gun lobby has spent decades choosing guns and profits over our safety, our kids keep being massacred.
I am so sick and tired of waiting for lifesaving change. I’m sick of hearing NRA shilling politicians like Ted Cruz and Greg Abbott say that tragedies like these can’t be stopped. These tragedies can be stopped, Brady knows how to do it, but it will only happen if we all come together and fight.
My daughter’s killer was armed with an assault weapon and large capacity magazines – just like the killer in Uvalde, TX. Just like the killer at Sandy Hook. These weapons of war are designed to kill as many people as possible as fast as possible, and that’s why they have become the weapon of choice for mass murderers. And I promise you that more children will die if we do not act to ban these weapons and start to end gun violence once and for all.
Parents like me, who have to live every day with the loss of their children, don’t ever really move on from tragedy – but we do move forward. Forward means changing this country and protecting our children. Forward means banning weapons of war and passing gun safety legislation. But forward is only possible with your help.
That’s why I’m asking you today, John, to fuel this fight forward. As a dad whose daughter was murdered, as a father who’s still fighting for his son’s life and the lives of other kids, I’m asking you from the bottom of my heart: Please, will you donate what you can to Brady right now and help us finally change this country?
