They’re backing at least one of Rashida’s opponents in our re-election campaign. These attacks on Rashida are a response to our important work together.

They’re so scared of the movement we’ve built that they'd spend millions of their own money to try to avoid paying their fair share in taxes.

We just learned that a super PAC backed by a hedge fund billionaire is spending at least $1 million in misinformation ads in an attempt to defeat Rashida.

This is yet another sad example of out of state billionaire interference in local races, spending millions to peddle lies and distortions, and pushing a pro-corporate agenda on a district that has consistently stood against the corporate greed hurting our families.

Flooding districts with misinformation and attack ads has led to some difficult primary election losses, as with Nida Allam in North Carolina. In other elections, the smear campaigns have turned some massive leads into tight races, as with Summer Lee in Pennsylvania.

In our primary election in Michigan’s 12th district, the same groups coming after progressive candidates like Nida and Summer are coming for Rashida.

Born and raised in Detroit, Rashida is deeply rooted in her community and has delivered for her district. In 2020, we faced racist attempts to overturn our votes—particularly in Black and brown communities.

Now, dark money groups endorsing Republicans who voted to overturn the election results and undermine Black and brown voters are getting involved in Democratic primaries as well. Many of the members of Congress they’ve supported have sided with neo-Nazis and insurrectionists.

That’s why the Young Democrats of Michigan have called on Democratic candidates to stop taking money or endorsements from these special interest PACs.

We deserve political leaders who understand how white supremacy threatens all of us. That Wall Street greed threatens all of us. That Big Money’s influence in our elections threatens all of us.
