Thankful for Many Things!
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday, filled with love, family, delicious food -- and not too many awkward political discussions! This year, we have a lot to be grateful for, and in today's issue of the Democratic Dispatch, we thought we'd go over some things that we're thankful for!
We're thankful for...
Our Statewide Elected Democrats!
It's hard to believe that a year ago, we were celebrating historical victories up and down the ballot. We elected Democrats to all four of our constitutional officer positions for the first time in decades -- and all four of them have done incredible work serving the people of Colorado!
We're thankful for...
Our Democrats in the State Legislature!
Colorado voters sent a loud and clear message in 2018 -- they wanted elected officials who would fight for equal pay for equal work, for criminal justice reforms, for combating the climate crisis facing our planet, for greater access to affordable housing, for LGBTQ equality, for lower healthcare rates via a reinsurance program, for higher access to quality, affordable healthcare, for more affordable prescription drugs, for voting rights, for education, and for hard working families! With Democrats in the majority in both the state House and Senate, the General Assembly delivered on the voters' wishes. That's why we're thankful to the Colorado Senate and House Democrats for their leadership and bravery!
We're thankful for...
Our Congressional Democrats!
The American people delivered a Democratic House Majority in Congress last year, and thanks to the leadership Colorado's four Congressional Democrats, we've seen a number of progressive policies be passed in the House! While Moscow Mitch has done everything he can to obstruct and stop this progress, it is our hope that in 2020, we can defeat Cory Gardner and win a Democratic majority in the Senate so we can pass these policies the American people want! We're thankful to Senator Bennet, Congresswoman DeGette, Congressman Neguse, Congressman Crow, and Congressman Perlmutter for battling every single day in a Washington that is led by the most corrupt President our country has seen in modern history.
We're thankful for many things when it comes to our Democratic U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. Whether it's his sponsorship of the CORE Act with Congressman Neguse to protect our public lands, his co-sponsorship with Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown of the American Family Act, or his calm demeanor, we're thankful Senator Bennet is our senator. But what we might be most thankful for this past year is his epic tearing down of Ted Cruz over the government shutdown that went viral back in January. Haven't seen it (or at least in a while)? Do yourself a favor and click here to watch!

Congresswoman Diana DeGette has been a champion for Coloradans' reproductive freedoms and LGBTQ rights. In addition to her work on the Energy and Commerce Committee and her bill to cut the skyrocketing cost of insluin, Congresswoman DeGette has recently made headlines by sponsoring and passing out of the committee the Colorado Wilderness Act to protect hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands! Congresswoman DeGette -- we're thankful to you for your service!
Congressman Joe Neguse has very quickly made a name for himself in his first term in Washington, DC! As a freshman member of the House Democratic Leadership team and a member on the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman Neguse has been right in the thick of some of this year's most contentious policy and political issues. In addition to sponsoring bills like the CORE Act, voter pre-registration, or multiple bills and provisions to combat climate change, Congressman Neguse has also held the most town halls of his entire class of first year representatives. His landmark moment might be this passionate speech he gave in defense of the DREAM Act. We're thankful to you, Congressman Neguse!
Eyes were on first year Congressman Jason Crow after he flipped CD6 and defeated Mike Coffman, and he has not disappointed! A former Army Ranger, Congressman Crow has recently introduced and taken the lead on bipartisan legislation to create a global war on terror memorial to commemorate all those we have lost. In addition to championing legislation to combat dark money in politics and funding for mental health in schools, Congressman Crow has also taken the lead on investigating the ICE facility in Aurora that has been notorious in its lack of transparency. NowThis media shot a documentary of Congressman Crow's attempts to bring more light to their activities -- we suggest you watch by clicking here! We're thankful to you, Congressman for all your work in CD6!
As one of Colorado's longest serving members of Congress, we have always been thankful to Congressman Ed Perlmutter for his energy, enthusiasm, and optimism in the face of everything politics can throw at you! But we've been particularly thankful to have Congressman Perlmutter in office because of how accessible he makes himself to the folks of CD7. This September, he celebrated his 100th "Government in the Grocery", where he's made his mark listening to and helping countless constituents by sitting down and listening to their stories directly. Additionally, after years of hard work, Congressman Perlmutter finally saw his SAFE Banking Act pass out of the House!

We're thankful for...
Our CU Board of Regents!
We are thankful to our four Democratic members of the CU Board of Regents for standing up for inclusive educational values in our state's flagship university system. With Jack Kroll, Linda Shoemaker, Irene Griego, and Lesley Smith on the Board, we are currently one member away from Democrats having a majority! In addition to our work to defeat Cory Gardner and Donald Trump, we'll be working hard to elect Ilana Spiegel -- to whom we are grateful for running to flip the CD6 seat on the Board of Regents!
We're thankful for...
Our State Board of Education!
Having a Democratic majority on the State Board of Education would not have been possible without flipping the CD6 seat (and electing Rebecca McClellan!) in 2016. We are so thankful to Val Flores, Angelika Schroeder, Jane Goff, and Rebecca for standing strong for education and for the vision that every child in Colorado should be able to go to a quality school and have good teachers, no matter their zip-code!
We're thankful for... ALL OF YOU!
Democracy works best when everyone participates. We know that without your support and hard work, all the progress our state has made would not have been possible! We're thankful to you for all your donations, all the doors you have knocked, all the phone calls you made, and for all the hours you have put in to electing Democrats up and down the ballot.
From all of us at the Colorado Democratic Party -- thank you.
