This has been the most frustrating week for me in Harrisburg to-date. As a human being and a Mother my heart is broken. In the past two weeks we have seen people going about their lives- simply food shopping and being gunned down and now, again, children and teachers being murdered in school – both by assault weapons. There has been too much bloodshed in our country due to gun violence.
This is a CALL FOR ACTION and I ask that you forward this email to everyone you know in Pennsylvania.
In March 2021, I co-sponsored HB 770 which would ban assault weapons. It sits in the Judiciary Committee. Yesterday, we in the Democratic minority attempted to bring this proposed bill to a vote. The motion was defeated 111-87.
These bills are being held in the Judiciary Committee right now:
· HB 699 - Provides that all guns be stored safely when not in use
· HB 770 - Prohibits the sale of assault weapons
· HB 1903 - “Red flag bill” empowering loved ones and law enforcement to temporarily disarm persons in crisis.
· HB 1538 - Gives local officials control to enact gun safety measures for the protection and safety of their communities.
Rep. Rob Kauffman is Chair of the Judiciary Committee that is holding up these bills. He needs to hear from all of us.
Please call AND email him today and ask that these bills be brought to the House floor for a vote immediately.
