Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good Afternoon,

This week, I had the opportunity to travel to Houston, Texas with other members of Congress to tour various facilities related to my service on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. I had a great time at NetPower’s carbon capture pilot project and learning more about sustainable energy technologies.

I also enjoyed touring the Houston Ship Channel! The Houston Ship Channel plays a vital role in American energy dominance and is home to many industrial facilities, including power generators, refineries, and petrochemical plants.

I enjoyed speaking at Southwest Gas and Arizona State University's Hydrogen Blending Project Showcase to discuss my support for hydrogen energy. Southwest Gas' hydrogen blending pilot program seeks to discover how hydrogen-blended natural gas is able to provide clean, reliable energy while lowering emissions.

It was an honor to speak at the Insight Academy of Arizona and Arizona Virtual Academy’s commencements.

House Energy and Commerce Committee

This week in the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce, I pushed back on Democrats' "socialist more government control" legislation that would have the Federal Trade Commission, instead of consumers, determine if a product is overpriced.

Lesko Joins Effort to Stop the World Health Organization

Image

Did you know that the United States sends $400-$500 MILLION to the World Health Organization (WHO) annually? I signed on to Congressman Lance Gooden’s (R-TX-05) letter to oppose giving authority or resources to the WHO.

Lesko Joins Legislation to Alert Local Authorities of Migrant Releases

Image

I’m proud to cosponsor Congressman Michael Guest’s (R-MS-03) Early Migration Alert Program Act. Through this bill, immigration officials must notify local law enforcement when migrants are about to be released into their jurisdictions. Biden shouldn't be releasing illegal migrants into communities in the first place.

GET THE FACTS: Arizona’s Gas Prices Go Through the Roof

As you have likely noticed, gas prices in Arizona have continued to skyrocket due to President Biden’s anti-American energy policies. Due to the rise in gas prices, hotel prices, and labor shortages, we could be witnessing the demise of the great American road trip. The price of gas has gone up by 43.6% and the price of a hotel has gone up by 22.6% compared to last April. To make matters worse, gas prices could hit $6.20 per gallon nationwide by August. Are you considering flying? Inflation is hurting you there as well. Airline fares have gone up 33.3% since last April and the cost to rent a car has also increased. Under the Biden Administration, American families are having to make all kinds of sacrifices to make ends meet.

Around the District

Austin from our office went on a ride along with the Westbrook Posse in Peoria, AZ to learn more about all they do to protect our community.

Monica from our office presented a Congressional Recognition to the Remembering Heroes Foundation for all they do for our military veterans. The Foundation also provides resources and landscaping donations to military veterans during the Peoria Heroes Walk of Flags event.

Casework Highlight

A constituent reached out to our office for assistance with an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax refund issue. In November 2021, the constituent had still not received his 2020 tax return. After contacting the IRS, we were able to get his refund processed.

Encouraging Story

I am pleased to share this story about welders coming together to rescue a five-year-old Golden Lab named Bo. Bo had fallen into a fast-running wash, which resulted in him finding himself under an iron cattle guard. The welders were trying their best to hold on to Bo by his collar while cutting the bars to get him out. Thankfully, the welders were able to get Bo out and reunite him with his family.
