Millions of women don’t need great deals today. They need a better pay every day.

Dear John,

Your inbox is, no doubt, stuffed with offers for things to buy today. This email is not one of them.

No, this email is for all the cashiers, folks stocking and restocking shelves, restaurant servers, cleaners and millions more in similar jobs out working today to say simply this: we see you.

And we’re not about to let a shopping bonanza distract us from the real work left to do.

So here’s what’s on my shopping list today. I’m hoping you’ll make room for them on your list too:

  • Equal pay — women deserve better than the 80 cents they now get for every dollar paid to men
  • Fair work schedules — an end to unpredictable, volatile work schedules that make it impossible for working women to make ends meet and care for their families
  • A livable minimum wage — two-thirds of minimum wage workers in the United States are women and can’t get above the poverty line on their income
  • Pregnancy accommodations — retail is one of many fields where requests for stools to sit, bathroom breaks, and water bottles are frequently denied to pregnant workers.

John, have you got room on your list for the best gift of the season — one that fights for working women?

I’m talking about a heaping helping of tireless, unapologetic, and uncompromising advocacy for gender justice.

I hope you score all the deals your heart desires today. Best of all — let’s score a better deal for the millions of women working low-paid jobs today and every day.

In solidarity,
