Dear John, After Buffalo, after Uvalde, after all this violence and suffering; we're here to say: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We need immediate action - in fact, we're demanding it. Will you stand with us? The epidemic of deadly gun violence is literally killing us and we can't stand idly by as it continues to plague our communities, families, and friends. North Carolinians are better than this, and the best news is, we know just what to do to make real tangible change in our community right now: -
- We need to keep our current pistol purchase permitting system in place since it requires a background check no matter where an individual buys a handgun, even if it is online or at a gun show.
-
- Our state must fully fund Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs. Governor Cooper proposed a $5 million investment in CVI programs that will focus on individuals at the highest risk of violence and use prevention and intervention strategies to reduce violence and retaliation.
-
- Fully fund a safe storage awareness initiative and distribution of free gun locks. Governor Cooper proposed $1 million for the purchase of gun locks and $200,000 for an educational campaign about safe storage.
-
- Pass an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) bill, which has been proven to save lives.
Our communities deserve better. It is time to act now. Please think of protecting all North Carolinians from gun violence by signing this petition right now. Sincerely, Becky Ceartas |
