Friend,
This week another community in Texas experienced a mass shooting that took the lives of 19 children and two school teachers. The Uvalde community is still reeling from this horrific tragedy and wondering if their elected leaders will do something…anything…to prevent another massacre.
While Texans across the state attended vigils and marches demanding their elected leaders take action to address gun violence, our governor Greg Abbott delivered virtual remarks at a National Rifle Association convention. Amid the unspeakable tragedy that took place in his state, he is calling for further loosening gun laws.
Meanwhile, his opponent Beto O’Rourke is fighting back. When Abbott held a press conference to offer his “thoughts and prayers,” Beto showed up, stood in front of Abbott, and gave voice to what so many Americans felt: “this is on YOU governor.”
At Ground Game Texas, we’re working to put progress directly on the ballot for voters—pushing ballot initiatives to change local laws on issues like marijuana, the minimum wage, and climate change. But we also know that so much change happens in places like the Governor’s mansion.
That’s why we’re working every day to register thousands of voters and mobilize them behind progressive causes and candidates. Through our campaigns across the state our organizers are reaching tens of thousands of voters every month—that kind of work will make a HUGE difference in unseating people like Greg Abbott and electing candidates like Beto O’Rourke.
As we all grieve another tragedy in our state, we want to thank you for being part of our team and for your dedication to building a better future for our state. Together, we are working toward a day where no student, teacher, or parent needs to fear what took place in Uvalde.
Thank you,
Ground Game Texas
