Friend --
The Trump administration wants to cut $4.5 billion in funds
from SNAP over 5 years by changing how benefits are
calculated.
SNAP enables millions of Americans, including seniors, people with
disabilities, children and low-income workers who struggle with
poverty and food insecurity, to put nutritious meals on the table. But
despite bipartisan support for protecting SNAP in Congress, the
administration now wants to do exactly the opposite.
Through a new USDA rule change, the administration wants to
cut $4.5 billion in funds for SNAP over 5 years.
Right now, each state can account for the costs of utilities like
heating, cooling, water, sewer, etc. as they calculate SNAP benefits
for households. This rule change would unfairly standardize and cap
Standard Utility Allowance calculations across the country―resulting
in dramatic cuts to food stamps.
Send
USDA a strong message: don’t make new rules that cut SNAP and take
food away from 7 million hungry people who need it. This rule change
would increase hardship for millions of low-income Americans and must
be withdrawn.
We have until December 2nd to submit public comments urging
USDA to reject the proposed rule change.
Please submit your official comment telling Sec. Perdue and the
USDA that we cannot take critical food assistance away from low-income
children and families.
You can cut and paste or upload a separate
file with your comment to https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FNS-2019-0009-0001.
The “comment now” button is in the upper right-hand corner of
the page.
All comments are public. Please include any details about how these
cuts would affect your family and community.
