Minnesota Attorney General and Our Revolution Board Member Keith Ellison joined our National Organizing Call on Monday to talk about how to communicate our progressive values to voters during the 2022 elections.
“We all want safety and security. Equality of the law means neither fear nor favor — you hold folks accountable even if they’re wearing a badge,” Keith said. “Part of our movement is trying to establish basic respect and decency for all human beings.”
Keith said he’s expecting a tough race this year — like most progressives across the country, he’s the target of the billionaires’ smear machine, but we’ve overcome it before and we can do it again.
“One of our biggest obstacles is cynicism,” he said. “A lot of folks’ expectations were high — we do need real change and people want to see things happen that affect their lives — and there have been failures on a living wage, student debt relief, climate action. To achieve these things — the time to fight is now, the time to grow our organizing is now.”

WOOOOO - CROCKETT VICTORY!
Our Revolution MEMBER Jasmine Crockett won the runoff Democratic primary to win a seat in Congress representing the Dallas-area TX-30 District!
Jasmine beat a candidate endorsed by AIPAC and DMFI, former Biden Texas director and Democratic Party insider, Roll Call said, noting Our Revolution’s endorsement.
Jasmine is a founding member of the Texas Progressive Caucus in the State House, and she helped lead the walkout to block voting restrictions last summer.
Now, she’s on her way to Washington in this blue district! Help us keep this momentum going and be a sustaining member of Our Revolution.

As of Wednesday, Our Revolution-endorsed Michelle Vallejo was leading her Blue Dog opponent by just 23 votes in a close race for Congress in Texas’ 15th District.
We are still waiting for the race to be called.
Running to represent one of the most uninsured regions of the country, Michelle says Medicare for All would be “game-changing” for South Texans. “No resident should have to cross the border to find affordable medical care or treatments. No resident should have to rely on selling chicken plates to cover medical expenses,” she said.
Michelle would make an amazing partner in Congress for our movement, and we’re working to make sure this lead sticks!

The Texas-28 runoff between progressive Jessica Cisneros and Henry Cuellar - one of the WORST “Democrats” in Congress - is still up in the air.
With an estimated 98 percent of the vote in on Wednesday, Cuellar was up by just 177 votes.
“If Cuellar wins, leadership’s decision to go to the mat for a pro-NRA incumbent will be the reason why,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Whip James Clyburn both ran recorded robocalls right before the election backing Cuellar. Clyburn even visited in person to campaign for Cuellar.
Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese told The Hill, “Democratic leadership and countless corporate interests poured endless fundraising support into the incumbent’s campaign to fit their uninspiring, anti-progress mold,” he said. “It’s time for Washington to wake up and recognize that working families want a progressive agenda. It’s time to embrace and lift up pro-labor, pro-climate, pro-abortion candidates, instead of actively working to defeat them.”

We have a real progressive champion in Litesa Wallace, and Our Revolution is proud to back her run for Congress to represent Illinois’ 17th District.
Litesa was an original co-chair of Our Illinois Revolution and she’s been a steadfast ally as IL State Rep, doing the work for affordable childcare, mental healthcare, a living wage, violence reduction, and criminal justice reform.
As a single mom and foster parent, Litesa knows what it’s like to work hard and still struggle to make ends meet. She’s proud to have created a Foster Children’s Bill of Rights while in the State House.
“People are tired, they want a government that works for them,” Litesa told us on our National Organizing Call on Monday. “I won’t stop until government works for all of us.”

DELIA RAMIREZ FOR CONGRESS, IL-3
Our Revolution is thrilled to endorse Illinois State Rep. Delia Ramirez for Congress to represent Illinois’ 3rd. Voting is already underway and Election Day is June 28th.
Delia is taking on the establishment as a committed ally in the fight for Medicare for All, reproductive rights, climate action, and much more.
In the State House, she created a housing committee and expanded affordable housing and Medicaid coverage. Delia was an early co-sponsor of the state Clean Energy and Jobs Act and created an elected school board in Chicago.
Before being elected, she founded and directed several community organizations dedicated to creating prosperity for immigrants and working-class neighborhoods.
“It’s incredible to see so many of us from the progressive movement running at every level of government,” Delia said on our National Organizing Call on Monday. “If we get enough of us there, we will move the needle.”

BIG WIN TO DEFEND DEMOCRACY!
In a major victory for our movement, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that the US Constitution's “Insurrectionist Disqualification Clause” trumps a Civil War-era Amnesty Law and that our campaign to ban January 6th insurrectionists from the ballot is on solid ground legally, CNN reported.
With the J6 hearings starting in June, Our Revolution members and our partners at Free Speech For People are ramping up our campaign in the courts and on the streets.
Our members are calling on state election officials to use their power under the Constitution to bar criminal insurrectionists like Trump, Doug Mastriano, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Paul Gosar who aided and incited the mob that breached the Capitol on January 6th!

“Democrats shouldn’t have to agree on ‘everything,’ but it’s hardly ‘sophomoric’ to suggest they stand for something,” writes Robert Borosage in The Nation.
In race after race - from Nina Turner v. Shontel Brown to Cuellar v. Cisneros - Borosage points out that the Democratic Party’s corporate-funded campaign arms like the DCCC and the DSCC - are thumbing their noses at the Party platform - and the people - by putting their thumbs on the scale in favor of moderates who align with corporate interests and against popular progressive priorities.
But all is not lost, as the results of the election make clear. Borosage writes that groups like Our Revolution are building an “independent infrastructure” outside of the party that is effectively fighting to make sure that the Democratic Party is truly democratic.
