We're back with the May WFP update, John. These monthly updates are our way of letting you in on what's happening in our party, including key elections and all the organizing WFP members are doing to build a better future for our country.
AN 'ALL HANDS ON DECK' MOMENT
The fight for abortion access is about people being able to control their own bodies. It's about access to healthcare. It's about fighting for working people.
WFP organized an emergency Assembly call in early May with Elizabeth Warren and several of our endorsed candidates to address the leaked SCOTUS draft majority opinion to overturn Roe v. Wade and discuss what we can do to defend the right to abortion.
Senator Warren reminded us we have a path forward to securing our rights if we organize and fight. You can watch a recording of the emergency Assembly call here.
PRIMARY WINS SHOW THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE VS BIG DONORS
This month, we celebrated the historic wins of Summer Lee (PA-12) and Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-05) against their corporate-backed opponents. (Watch Jamie's message for WFP supporters here!)
And in Texas, we're thrilled Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) is headed to the general election. And while Jessica Cisneros's (TX-28) and Michelle Vallejo's (TX-15) runoff elections are still too close to call, they both ran courageous campaigns, and we are fighting with them to make sure every vote is counted.
Building a Working Families Majority in Congress is not just a goal of ours for the future. It's not something we plan to do down the line. It's what we are doing in Congress — right now.
But powerful forces will not stop attempting to get in our way. WFP candidates faced an unprecedented amount of spending from right-wing interests and billionaires who were terrified at the idea of more champions for working families taking seats in Congress.
These dark money forces have tried to stop our movement before, but we're showing up and doing the work to out-organize the special interests.
Can you contribute $3 or any amount today to our Working Families Majority Fund? Your contributions are critical in helping us prepare for all of the remaining primaries we're facing down in the months to come.

WFP VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Safi Harriott (she/her)
Hometown: Washington, DC
As a former educator, I've held a fair amount of hard conversations. I've taught history, culture, and social justice courses. For me, there wasn't a separation between academic learning and trying to create more caring communities. That was the start of my being an activist.
I stumbled across WFP while looking for virtual volunteer opportunities in 2020. I had just started text banking and was dealing with a lot of fear around reaching out to voters, not knowing what to say, and not being a political expert. I am so glad I found that link.
From the Welcome Gatherings to monthly Assemblies, and on every single shift, the WFP leaders and our volunteer community gave me a sense of groundedness and shared strategy in the face of our shared obstacles. Now I'm keen to help new volunteers tap into that resource and find their voice and their role.
