Here’s the simple fact, John. There are ONLY 11 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) women in Congress. This severe lack of representation simply can’t stand any longer.

The good news is Emerge women are changing the face of politics right now. Women like Mayor Michelle Wu, Del. Kathy Tran, Councilwoman Jocelyn Yow, Del. Lily Qi, and Alderperson Maiyoua Thao are making history and winning elections from Massachusetts to California.

"Asian and Pacific Islander Americans are the most underrepresented group in politics when you compare our population to our representation in elected office. And that disparity is even greater for APIA women. Living up to the promise of our democracy means electing leaders who reflect the lived experiences, perspectives, and politics of the people we serve." - Michelle Wu

MAY ALUM PROFILE

MICHELLE WU: Emerge Mass alum Michelle Wu made history in 2021 when she became the first woman of color elected mayor of Boston.

KATHY TRAN: A mother of five, Emerge Virginia alum Kathy Tran unseated a Republican incumbent to become one of the first Asian American women elected to the VA House of Delegates.

JOCELYN YOW: Before becoming a councilwoman, Emerge California alum Jocelyn Yow made history as the youngest woman of color to be elected mayor in California.

LILY QI: Emerge Maryland alum Del. Lily Qi became the first Chinese immigrant to serve in the Maryland state Legislature!

ALDER MAIYOUA THAO: Emerge Wisconsin alum Alder Maiyoua Thao is breaking the stereotypes of being a mother and an elected official.

But it’s going to take real community power to win full representation for all. So please John:
