Dear John,
We recently sent an email about Hope, who was just 13 years old when he became one of thousands currently enslaved on Lake Volta working in Ghana’s dangerous fishing industry.
After five long years of enduring fear, abuse and the constant risk of drowning, we rescued Hope, thanks to your support. Today we wanted to give you an update on this brave young man who is living up to his name and bringing hope to so many.

enslaved on Lake Volta.

Today, Hope is studying to be an electrician so that he can break the cycle of poverty he grew up in before becoming enslaved. His future is growing brighter by the day.
Even more inspiring, Hope is leading our Ghana survivor group and is committed to helping IJM rescue all the kids still enslaved and abused on Lake Volta. “When the time comes, they will be rescued just like me,” Hope says.

In addition to the thousands currently enslaved in Ghana, there are many more young children from regions across Ghana who are still at risk of being separated from their families and trafficked into forced fishing labor.
IJM is actively working with authorities in Ghana to rescue children from Lake Volta. As we prepare to send more rescue teams onto the water, please give to help send rescue to more children on Lake Volta and around the world.
