As I watched Rick Caruso try to buy the mayoral election, I did a lot of soul searching. How could I do what's best for our city? Last week I stepped aside to endorse my longtime friend, colleague, and partner Karen Bass for Mayor of Los Angeles.

I'm proud of the campaign I ran for Los Angeles Mayor, and I'm deeply grateful for all the encouragement I've received along the way. But this is bigger than any one candidate.

Rick Caruso has spent an astonishing amount of money — $30 million and counting— to buy this race. His campaign is a toxic mix of false claims, promises he can't keep, and desperate efforts to distance himself from his record of supporting right-wing politicians who do not share L.A.'s values.

Karen can — and must — win because the stakes for Los Angeles could hardly be higher. I am doing all I can to support her in this final stretch before primary election day, and that's why I'm asking for your help:

It's Karen, not Rick Caruso, who should govern our city, and we need you on board. Please chip in $25, $15, or even $5 to Karen's campaign to defeat Caruso and secure a better future for L.A.

Karen is the only candidate who can beat Caruso. She is a great listener, treats everyone with respect, and has strong values. She's not focused on who gets the credit—she just wants to get the job done. These qualities make her a great public servant. And they will make her a great Mayor.

It's going to take all of us working together to go up against Rick Caruso and elect Karen as our next Mayor. Please don't sit on the sidelines of a race that will shape L.A.'s future for the next decade. Chip in what you can today to support Karen's historic campaign.
