John, during Mental Health Awareness month, we’ve shared how your support provides healing resources to children around the world dealing with emotional hardships. In areas of conflict like Ukraine and around the world, the horrors of war and other disasters pose immense threats to children’s mental health and emotional development. Thanks to this community’s support, Save the Children’s Healing and Education through the Arts (HEART) program is providing a healing creative outlet and a road to recovery.
Informed by strong evidence showing the positive impact of the arts on stress reduction, well-being, learning and development, our HEART program in Uganda, Mexico and around the world uses an arts-based approach to address children’s psychosocial needs. Through drawing, painting, music, drama and other art forms, we help children process feelings, share experiences, and learn about themselves and each other in an emotionally supportive environment.
Over the last 10 years, the HEART program has supported more than one million children in 30 countries across the globe. And over the last two months, it has been especially important in helping support children and families displaced by the war in Ukraine.
