John, I ran for office for the same reason I joined the Navy -- I stepped up when my country needed me.

As soon as I was elected to Congress, I knew I’d have to work harder than almost any of my colleagues to keep my seat -- I won my election by just 2.3 points.

But I didn’t spend 20 years serving my country in uniform just to sit on the sidelines now when our democracy is at risk. I’m not backing down, and I know you won’t either.

Outside groups don’t care that I’ve worked to pass legislation that makes a meaningful difference in my constituents’ lives, and they don’t care that I’ve refused to participate in partisan games.

They know that I’m one of the very few Democratic incumbents running in a “toss-up” district that Trump won -- And they will spend millions of dollars to try to take this seat away from us.

If we don’t hit our goal, we won’t be able to respond to the misleading attacks that have already been launched against me OR the attacks we know are coming down the road.
