SUPPORTING EVERYDAY HEROES IN FLORIDA
Florida is helping those who help all of us. Governor DeSantis announced the Hometown Heroes Housing Program, which is available to over 50 critical professions, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, educators, healthcare professionals, childcare employees and active military or veterans, to purchase their first home.
Beginning June 1, eligible borrowers can apply for low-interest loans and receive up to $25,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance.

Florida’s economy is booming, and so are the state’s finances
Florida continues to outperform the nation economically, allowing for record investments in education, infrastructure and more, all while increasing our state reserves, Governor DeSantis said this week.
Top takeaways on this historic milestone:
- Florida’s reserves will top $20 billion for this fiscal year.
- Florida’s revenues have exceeded pre-pandemic estimates by more than $8 billion.
- No money from the Federal Government is included in Florida’s record $20 billion reserves.
- Florida’s unemployment rate has remained below the national rate for 17 consecutive months.
- Florida’s labor force grew by 3 percent in April 2022 over the year.
“By keeping our economy open, maintaining a low tax environment, and being fiscally responsible, Florida’s budget reserves have never been stronger,” Governor DeSantis said.

Senator Rubio leading fight against forced vaccinations
Senator Marco Rubio is standing up against forced vaccinations with the introduction of the Defending Freedom of Conscience for Cadets and Midshipmen Act.
- The U.S. Air Force Academy recently announced that unvaccinated graduates would not be commissioned.
- Military graduates who are not commissioned could be forced to repay tuition and room and board expenses for their time at the Academy.
- Senator Rubio’s Defending Freedom of Conscience for Cadets and Midshipmen Act would prevent military graduates from being punished for their choice to not receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
“It is outrageous to punish young men and women who want nothing more than to serve their nation,” Rubio said. “These are the types of ridiculous, unnecessarily punitive measures that discourage patriotic Americans from joining the military.”

Florida’s economy really has been stronger than the nation’s
The data is in! Florida’s economy outpaced the nation as a direct result of Governor DeSantis’ policies that kept our state open, according to a report just issued by Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis on Florida’s Economic Resilience.
Key findings of Florida’s Economic Resiliency Report:
- Governor DeSantis’ refusal to implement statewide lockdowns was a pivotal contributor to Florida’s economic success.
- During the global pandemic, Florida’s economy continued to grow and outpaced the U.S. economy.
- Florida’s finance and real estate industries suffered no economic dip due to COVID-19.
- Florida’s COVID-19 policies allowed Florida’s economy to make a quick rebound, leading to exceptional growth.
“While we had a sense that Governor DeSantis’ willingness to fight back against lockdowns led to more wealth and opportunities in our state — we now have the data to back it up,” said CFO Patronis.

LG Nuñez hosts roundtable to fight human and drug trafficking
Because the federal government refuses to enforce federal law at the border, Florida law enforcement must pick up the slack, the main topic of a roundtable led by Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez. By proactively blocking human traffickers and drug smugglers, Florida is seeing success. For instance, in 2021, the Florida Highway Patrol alone seized:
- 9,750 pounds of marijuana
- 115 pounds of cocaine
- 20 pounds of heroin
- 250 pounds of methamphetamine
- $4.4 million in U.S. currency
- $118.8 million in contraband
- 272 weapons
- These seizures resulted in 1,168 persons arrested and 2,308 felony charges.
“Unfortunately, we are in a position where we have to step up our efforts even more because politicians in D.C. and in some poorly-led states would rather leave these criminals on the street instead of putting them in prison, where they belong,” Lieutenant Governor Nuñez said.
