Team –
I’m a proud member of the Asian American & Pacific Islander community. I was the first Filipino American to serve in California’s state legislature, and now am the first to serve as our state Attorney General.
Right now, during AAPI Heritage Month, I want to tell you why that matters, and why it’s so critical that I be the first, but not the last: Because when our government looks like the people we serve – when we come from the same backgrounds as the people we serve – we end up with policies that serve everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected.
This representation matters. Every Californian should be able to see themselves in their elected leaders and to know that their government is working for them.
That’s why I ran for office – because I want a California government that works for all. Please, chip in to my reelection campaign right now.
This is a particularly critical time for us to ensure that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are represented in government. Here in California and across the country, we’ve seen a rise in hate crimes and violence directed at the AAPI community.
I’ve committed our Department of Justice to ending this violence, by releasing new guidance on combating hate crimes and launching our new Racial Justice Bureau.
Ensuring representation for all is a critical component of the fight for justice, and I’ll continue this work every single day. Please donate to my campaign so we can keep this fight going.
Together, we can fight hate in all its forms – and make California a place where everyone is safe and represented.
Thank you,
Rob Bonta
