A Note from Chair Amalia Duarte
Dear MCDC Friends - It’s been an emotionally devastating and draining week. We send our prayers and compassion to the families of the 19 children and two teachers gunned down in Uvalde, Texas. This horrific crime comes just days after a racially motivated massacre of 10 Black Americans at a grocery store in Buffalo. This level of gun violence is heartbreaking, frightening and unimaginable.
And what is being done to stop it? Democratic elected officials continue to push for common-sense gun ownership measures. Yet, they are met with resistance from recalcitrant Republicans. This is just one reason why the 2022 elections are so critical: We need to elect more Democrats from our local town councils to Congress. We must Hold the House! The Republican party is tied to extremist views that are not in line with a majority of Americans.
Let’s turn our anguish and anger into action. Tonight, join with Moms Demand Action and Everytown Survivor Fellow, Tiffany Starr at the Denville municipal building at 6:00 p.m., for an interfaith vigil. RSVP.
Next week, let's shine a light on June 3 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Wear orange to all of these events!
On Friday, June 3, tie orange ribbons around light poles in Morristown and Madison.
● Meet at 12 PM at the Morristown Town Hall, 200 South St . RSVP.
● Meet in Madison at Central Avenue and Main Street (location of black clock). RSVP.
Then, on Saturday, June 4, join the Chatham Rally for Gun Violence Awareness Day at the White Gazebo, 17 Firehouse Plaza. A short program will be followed by tying ribbons along Main Street and distributing Wear Orange placards to businesses. RSVP here.
