Five Stories You Should Know About 1. Breaking News – Becca Balint Pulls Ahead in Vermont Today Vermont state Senator Kesha Ram-Hinsdale, a contender for the open U.S. House seat in Vermont, dropped out of the race. Senator Ram-Hinsdale also announced her full endorsement of Victory Fund candidate Becca Balint! Becca is now up against just two other primary opponents and today’s announcement further reinforces the growing momentum behind her race. Big wins on Tuesday in Texas, Georgia and Alabama Victory Fund had an incredible night on Tuesday with primary elections in Texas, Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas. 75% of our Spotlight candidates won and 62% of all candidates won their elections! All three of our state legislative Spotlight candidates won their runoff elections in Texas! Jolanda Jones is now on track to remain the first and only Black out LGBTQ woman ever elected to the state legislature and Venton Jones and Christian Manuel-Hayes are poised to make history as the first Black out LGBTQ men elected to the state legislature! In Georgia, state House candidate Imani Barnes proceeded to the June 21 runoff election after winning 47.6% of the vote and state Representative Karla Drenner fended off her primary challenger after winning 73.8% of the vote. Alabama state Representative Neil Rafferty handily defeated his two primary challengers with 58% of the vote. There are no Republicans running, so Neil will retain his seat in November and remain the only out LGBTQ elected official in Alabama. 3. Endorsement Alert – Up to Almost 300! Yesterday, Victory Fund endorsed 20 more out LGBTQ candidates running in the 2022 midterms. We’ve now endorsed 292 candidates running this cycle. Candidates given Game Changer status include Michael Pieciak who would be the first out LGBTQ state treasurer in Vermont history and state Representative Deborah Ruggiero who would be the first out LGBTQ person elected to a statewide office in Rhode Island.
