When I wrote to you on Tuesday, I finished writing before I learned about the children who died in Texas. I said I would write to you about Roe v. Wade and the importance of standing for choice and women's reproductive health care. The urgency of that issue is still there, each and every day.
The deaths of the children and two teachers in Texas are also omnipresent in our minds now. We're devastated, heartbroken, and angry.
Ultimately, the question is what are we going to do about it. For me, I conclude that we must support those who share our ideals. That's how I continue to serve you on the County Board and that's why I ask you to:

Congresswoman Elaine Luria
We must act constructively despite our grief and frustration, so I am writing to you today asking you to join me on June 15th. Representative Luria is in the most difficult Congressional District for a Democrat to win in Virginia. She is pro-choice and pro-common sense gun safety. And her work on impeachment and faith grounded in service are inspiring. Brooke and I would love to host you at our home:

Tweet from Congresswoman Luria in Response to Uvalde, Texas
Congresswoman Luria is a former Naval Commander whose commitment to service is clear and who has lived by the simple motto "Be Good. Do Good work." I first heard her speak at the Women's Summit in 2018 when I was running. I immediately thought she and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger were the best candidates to win that year. Elaine is an outstanding leader and she is in one of the top 10 most important districts for Democrats on every website I have seen.
Elaine Luria and her husband Robert Blondin in 2005.
Please join me on June 15th or contribute to our effort to raise resources for Congresswoman Luria. This is a moment that requires that we walk and chew gum at the same time, as President Obama would say. We know this election will be tough. I know I also must do the work on behalf of my own campaign, but I emailing you today in hopes that you recognize that part of who we must be in this moment involves helping save our Democracy by helping Democrats hold the U.S. House of Representatives.
Matt
ps. Please save the date for this event on Sunday, June 26 for my re-election campaign to continue to serve you: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mdfbarcroft Time is 3 to 5 pm. Address available upon RSVP.
