Introducing the Trans Inclusion in Sports
Small Grants Program

The Williams Institute and Women’s Sports Foundation’s Trans Inclusion in Sports Small Grants Program aims to encourage new research focused on trans students’ participation and inclusion in sports and related topics. The grant will support work that will have a direct impact on law and policy, particularly on current debates regarding bans on trans students’ participation in K-12 school sports. Scholars from a variety of disciplines, including social sciences (e.g., economics, sociology, demography, social psychology), public health, law, and public policy, are encouraged to apply.

Deadline to apply: July 10, 2022

NEW RESEARCH

LGBTQ people on sex offense registries more likely to have received longer prison sentences

A new study finds more LGBTQ people convicted of sex offenses had been incarcerated in a prison compared to cisgender straight people (65% vs. 53%, respectively). Among those who served prison or jail sentences, more LGBTQ people reported sentences of 25 years or more (5% vs. 2%).

This is the first study to compare LGBTQ and straight cisgender people on sex offense registries. More than two-thirds (65%) of respondents said they had difficulties finding a place to live that fits registry requirements (i.e., not too close to a school, bus stop, park, or playground) and half said they had been refused housing by a landlord.
