Roopa is now raising her family in freedom
Roopa and her family were beaten and abused for years at a brick kiln before Roopa was married to Banaish and moved away to build a better life. However, the brick kiln owner threatened Roopa’s parents until she returned to the kiln with her new husband. During this time Roopa lost her first child. Overcoming unimaginable circumstances, today, Roopa and her husband are raising 2 children in freedom.

Plea bargaining leads to convictions in the Philippines
Atty. Lucille Dejito, Director of IJM Cebu Field Office says, “These recent convictions in Visayas and Mindanao are a testament to the relentless work and commitment of our duty bearers in law enforcement, prosecution and judiciary to ensure that violence against children will not thrive with impunity. We hope that these convictions and stiff penalties will serve as strong deterrence for traffickers who are exploiting children online.”

Ny* was 12 and Lalin* was 16 years when they were trafficked. After two years on the run, the convicted trafficker who abused two Cambodian girls in Malaysia was arrested by the Anti Human Trafficking Police in Cambodia.

A brothel closed for good in Mumbai
A Mumbai woman was convicted after a six-year trial and sentenced to seven years in prison for running a brothel and exploiting trafficked women and girls for sex. This has been the 113th conviction in IJM’s anti-sex trafficking program in Mumbai.
