The House just passed SEEC members Reps. Kim Schrier and Katie Porter’s Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act. This bill outlaws the selling of fuel at an “excessive” price during an energy crisis and empowers the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to pursue legal action when price gouging instances are discovered.

Big Oil will never shy away from exploiting our environment and our wallets for their own gain. Between the Russian oil ban and the pandemic, we’ve already seen instances of price gouging twice in the past two years. That’s why passing the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act is a major step toward regulating gas prices and protecting consumers.
