100 million displace people

Dear John,

As a supporter of refugees, you know that the war in Ukraine is only the latest in a series of emergencies that have forced people to flee their homes.

Sadly, the escalation of wars and conflict around the world - and the lack of peaceful solutions - means that more than 100 million people have now been forced to flee their homes. This is 100 million people whose lives have been torn apart. 100 million people who have their own hopes and fears about their future.

When faced with such huge numbers, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, or feel that we cannot make a difference. However, thanks to your support, UNHCR is working each and every day to help save lives, protect rights and build a better future for people forced to flee their homes.

"One hundred million is a stark figure – sobering and alarming in equal measure. It’s a record that should never have been set"

Filippo Grandi,United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

  • We are providing immediate life-saving support to people forced to flee their homes in places like Ukraine, Afghanistan and Yemen
  • We are advocating for governments to find political solutions to wars and conflict and create lasting peace that enables people to return home
  • We are promoting and protecting the right to seek asylum for everyone forced to flee their country
  • We are engaging with authorities, local communities and the private sector to innovate and provide displaced people with education, job skills training and pathways to resettle in third countries or, when possible, to return home peacefully

By supporting UNHCR, you are part of the global movement to create long-term solutions and a stable, peaceful future for refugees, displaced people and those seeking asylum.

The road ahead is not easy. But we believe that with collective effort and political will—we can give 100 million people forced to flee worldwide a better future.

Thank you for coming with us on this journey.

Warm regards,

Breno Valentini
