** 2022 CBTU DISTINCTION AWARDS

The CBTU Distinction Awards were recently held, ahead of the 2022 CBTU Conference, Stronger Now. The Awards were created to recognize and honour industry thought-leaders who have made significant contributions to their fields and supported nation-building through creating sustainable, progressive practices that transform the lives of not only Building Trades members, but the construction industry as a whole. This year, CBTU recognized innovators that have demonstrated commitment through the establishment of programs that serve to support, build and transform the lives of those they were created to serve through leadership development, skill growth, positive communication impact or diversity and inclusion.

CBTU SPECIAL AWARD OF DISTINCTION: PATRICK DILLON, LABOUR LEADER AND LONG-TIME BUSINESS MANAGER/FINANCIAL SECRETARY OF THE PROVINCIAL BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADES COUNCIL OF ONTARIO
Patrick Dillon was recognized for the CBTU Special Award of Distinction for the significant accomplishments that he has contributed to the Building Trades, the IBEW and the construction industry as a whole that resulted in changing not only the industry, but improving the lives of working men and women in construction.  
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION CHAMPION: LYLE DANIELS, COMMUNITY AND INDIGENOUS DIRECTOR AT THE BUILDING TRADES OF ALBERTA ([link removed]) .
Lyle Daniels, Community and Indigenous Director at the Building Trades of Alberta, and Kevin Bryenton, CEB Member and General Vice President of the Ironworkers.

Lyle was recognized for his innovation, leadership and the significant accomplishments he has made to make the construction industry more diverse and inclusive, swinging the door wide open for Indigenous Peoples across Canada to increase awareness that a career in the skilled trades is an option that includes a future filled with promise and unlimited potential. 

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CHAMPION: KAREN WALSH, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE TO ADVANCE WOMEN APPRENTICES ([link removed]) .
Executive Director of the Office to Advance Women Apprentices, Karen Walsh, and Lionel Railton, Canadian Regional Director of the International Union of Operating Engineers, at the 2022 CBTU Stronger Now Conference in April.
For Karen’s tenacity, leadership and the significant accomplishments she has made to break down barriers and create opportunities for women in the construction industry.   Her tireless commitment has demonstrated to the industry that change can happen, you just have to be persistent and work really hard. Her leadership has resulted in the expansion of the Office to Advance Women Apprentices in Newfoundland to replicate across the country, because her results, speak for themselves.

APPRENTICESHIP CHAMPION: JAMES ST. JOHN, PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF THE HAMMER HEADS ([link removed]) AND BUSINESS MANAGER/FINANCIAL SECRETARY OF THE CENTRAL ONTARIO BUILDING TRADES ([link removed]) .
James St. John, President and Director of the Hammer Heads and Business Manager/Financial Secretary of the Central Ontario Building Trades, and Sean Strickland, Executive Director of CBTU.
For James’ leadership and the significant accomplishments the Hammer Heads program has made to break down barriers and create opportunities for at-risk youth in construction.  The program has resulted in changing many lives through breaking down barriers, developing and creating additional supports to increase retention, and opening the door to the youth of under-resourced neighborhoods that a career in the skilled trades is an option that includes a future filled with promise and unlimited potential.

** PRIX SPÉCIAL DE DISTINCTION DES SMCC 2022

La remise des prix de distinction des SMCC a eu lieu récemment, en amont de la conférence 2022 des SMCC, Plus Forts. Ces prix ont été créés pour reconnaître et honorer les leaders d'opinion de l'industrie qui ont apporté une contribution importante à leur domaine et ont soutenu l'édification de la nation en créant des pratiques durables et progressistes qui transforment la vie non seulement des membres des Building Trades, mais aussi de l'industrie de la construction dans son ensemble. Cette année, les SMCC a reconnu les innovateurs qui ont fait preuve d'engagement en créant des programmes qui servent à soutenir, construire et transformer la vie de ceux qu'ils ont été créés pour servir par le biais du développement du leadership, de la croissance des compétences, de l'impact positif de la communication ou de la diversité et de l'inclusion.

Patrick Dillon a reçu le prix spécial de distinction des SMCC pour les réalisations importantes qu'il a apportées aux métiers de la construction, à la FIOE et à l'industrie de la construction dans son ensemble et qui ont permis de changer non seulement l'industrie, mais aussi d'améliorer la vie des travailleurs et des travailleuses dans la construction.

CHAMPIONNE DU DÉVELOPPEMENT DE LA MAIN-D'ŒUVRE : KAREN WALSH, DIRECTRICE EXÉCUTIVE DU BUREAU DE PROMOTION DES FEMMES APPRENTIES ([link removed]) .

La directrice exécutive du Bureau pour l'avancement des femmes apprenties, Karen Walsh, et Lionel Railton, directeur régional canadien de l'Union internationale des ingénieurs d'exploitation, lors de la conférence des SMCC Plus Forts 2022 en avril.

Pour la ténacité de Karen, son leadership et les réalisations importantes qu'elle a accomplies pour faire tomber les barrières et créer des opportunités pour les femmes dans l'industrie de la construction.   Son engagement infatigable a démontré à l'industrie que le changement est possible, il suffit d'être persistant et de travailler très fort. Grâce à son leadership, le Bureau de l'avancement des femmes apprenties de Terre-Neuve a été étendu à l'ensemble du pays, car ses résultats parlent d'eux-mêmes.

Pour le soutien de James et les réalisations importantes du programme Hammer Heads, qui a permis d'éliminer les obstacles et de créer des opportunités pour les jeunes à risque dans le domaine de la construction.  Le programme a permis de changer de nombreuses vies en éliminant les obstacles, en développant et en créant des soutiens supplémentaires pour augmenter la rétention et en faisant comprendre aux jeunes des quartiers défavorisés qu'une carrière dans les métiers spécialisés est une option qui offre un avenir plein de promesses et un potentiel illimité.
