** Patriots,
------------------------------------------------------------
On April 20th, we helped launch the South Carolina Freedom Caucus, the 3rd state to join our State Freedom Caucus Network. Below is a Q&A session that we recently did with its chairman, Adam Morgan. We hope you enjoy it.
Representative Adam Morgan speaks before the South Carolina Freedom Caucus at their launch in Columbia, South Carolina, April 20th.
** Q&A: Representative Adam Morgan,
South Carolina Freedom Caucus Chairman
------------------------------------------------------------
Q. As a small business owner, how welcoming and helpful has SC government been in helping you grow your business?
A. I try not to look to the government to help grow my business. In fact, SC has an addiction to “economic development”—which is basically a benign name for the crony policies of government handouts and picking winners and losers. What the government could do to “help” all SC businesses is get less involved in our business. Abandon government planning—I mean “economic development”—cut taxes, and cut regulations.
Q. What led you to run for office? What made you decide to be a conservative?
A. I have a deep love for history and political philosophy. In grade school the exemplars of Adams, Franklin, and Madison inspired me to dream about taking part in our political system. Likewise, icons such as Buckley, Kirk, and statesmen like DeMint and Reagan affected my political leanings. Good parenting likely caused my conservatism. However, the second decisive influence was the radical Leftist culture I experienced in law school. I was scandalized by the lack of respect for our institutions, religious roots, and Western culture. I can accurately say I was more pushed than pulled to the far right.
Q. What made you want to form a Freedom Caucus in SC?
A. I saw that our main issue as conservative legislators was organization. Our opponents are well-financed, well-staffed, and in control of the seats of power. We needed to build a strong coalition to support and embolden conservatives at al levels of government. The Freedom Caucus has led that effort on the national stage, and we knew the brand would be a perfect fit to change our state.
Q. What is the most immediate need in order to expand individual liberty in South Carolina?
A. Cut government—offensive not defensive action is required.
Q. How will you go about passing conservative policy in spite of efforts from establishment to promote “the go along to get along” mantra?
A. By showing leadership and fellow members that we have courage and conviction, and by making it clear to everyone that we are changing the culture.
Q. How do you plan to fight the “woke” left in your state?
A. By awakening patriotic Americans to the dire need to protect our institutions, values, and way of life.
Q.How do you keep each individual member devoted to the fight even when the left and the establishment put pressure on them?
A. By fostering unity, leading by example to inspire boldness, and providing support for every Caucus member.
Q. What are some instances of how the left has infiltrated and affected policy in a “red” state like SC?
A. Our Legislature’s embrace of identity politics is acutely evident in various committee and board appointments. Both in statute and agency regulations we have required appointees to be of a certain gender or race to reach diversity quotas. Additionally, government employees and teachers are subjected to “sensitivity” and other seemingly harmless (yet time wasting) trainings that are in reality woke, Marxist indoctrination.
Q. What are some policy proposals your caucus will have for the next Legislative Session?
A. Expand school choice, protect life, cut spending and government regulation, oppose woke policies, and much more.
