Uvalde Newspaper Goes Viral for Moving Tribute to Shooting Victims
Daily Wire: The Uvalde Leader-News — the print news outlet that serves the community of Uvalde, Texas — went viral for its heartbreaking front page on Thursday, less than 48 hours after their community was rocked by a tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School. The front page of Wednesday’s paper summed up what everyone in the community was feeling, just hours later, when it went to print as a solid black page marked only by the date — May 24, 2022 — in white block letters ( Daily Wire). Mitchell McCoy: The front page of today’s newspaper in #Uvalde. Sometimes there are no words ( Twitter).

San Francisco Parents Protest School Board, Ask for Return to Merit-Based Admissions
PJ Media: There was a rally at San Francisco Unified School District headquarters in San Francisco on Tuesday to protest the new admissions policy at the elite Lowell High School. The rally was made up mostly of parents. And instead of protesting the fact that there weren’t enough blacks or Hispanics at the school, the parents were urging the district to return to merit-based admissions. The parents held up signs saying “Merit is not racist” and “Gifted and driven students need a place.” They were responding to the news that more students were given failing grades at Lowell than before the admissions change ( PJ Media). San Francisco Chronicle: Of the 620 students in Lowell’s freshman class, 24.4% received at least one D or F grade during the fall semester, compared with 7.9% of first-year students in fall 2020 and 7.7% in fall 2019. In total, the number of Lowell ninth graders with a D or F grade tripled from 51 in fall 2020, the first full semester of remote learning, to 152 in 2021. The rise means the figures for that class at Lowell were closer to the numbers at other high schools in the city, district data shows. The jump coincided with the first year that Lowell admitted its freshman class based primarily on a lottery — as almost all other city high schools do — instead of test scores and grades ( San Francisco Chronicle). Back in February, three San Francisco school board members were recalled ( New York Times).

Moderna Tossing 30 Million Doses of Covid Vaccines Citing “Big Demand Problem”
From the story: Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel announced his pharmaceutical company is throwing out millions of its COVID-19 vaccines due to a “big demand problem.” Bancel’s comments came while speaking on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week. “It’s sad to say I’m in the process of throwing 30 million doses in the garbage because nobody wants them. We have a big demand problem,” Bancel said. Bancel said Moderna has reached out to several countries to see if any governments wanted the vaccines but that the interest is not there ( MSN). Efron Monsanto: Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna: “it’s sad to say, I’m in the process of throwing 30 million doses in the garbage because nobody wants them. We have a big demand problem.” Notes that China doesn’t want any MRNA products and how there’s 7 billion doses ( Twitter).

Claim: Leaked Audio Reveals China’s Plan to Invade Taiwan
Times of India: An unprecedented and explosive audio leak of a top-secret meeting of the Peoples Liberation Army has revealed China’s detailed plan to attack Taiwan. Experts say that the audio clip posted on the YouTube channel of Lude media appears authentic. This will be the first time since the formation of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 that a recording of a top-secret meeting of a military command has been leaked… The contents of the audio clearly point that the meeting was to discuss pre-war preparation. There are many different voices speaking in the audio which shows that it is more of a discussion style meeting in which different speakers have prepared their own points and are giving suggestions ( Times of India). Breitbart: The May 14 meeting allegedly highlighted Guangdong’s importance to China both generally and especially during wartime preparations. Guangdong is located along the north shore of the South China Sea almost directly west of the Taiwan Strait, which is a narrow body of water separating Taiwan from China. In addition to its strategically significant location, Guangdong is considered highly valuable for its manufacturing industry, which centers upon the province’s rich Pearl River Delta and is responsible for much of China’s domestic and foreign economic output ( Breitbart). Taiwan News: Leaked audio reveals Chinese commanders planning mobilization for war with Taiwan ( Twitter).

Poll: Companies Should Refrain From Pushing Wokeness on Consumers
Daily Wire: Companies have increasingly been pushing woke causes onto their consumers, but the poll reveals they do so at their own peril. The poll of over 1,000 investors, conducted last week by Echelon on behalf of The Daily Wire, showed that Americans want companies they invest in to seek profits instead of promoting political agendas outside of companies’ missions. While 29% of respondents agreed it is a “good thing” for companies to leverage their financial power for political or social means supported by executives, 58% — twice as many — said it is a “bad thing” ( Daily Wire).

Biden’s Special Envoy to Iran Seems to Give Terrorist Organizations a Pass
Daily Wire: President Joe Biden’s Special Envoy to Iran, Robert Malley, whose anti-Israel positions have been cited as well as his ambition to secure a nuclear deal (JCPOA) with arch-terrorist state Iran, has said that the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah are simply misunderstood by the West. Regarding the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah, Malley has stated, “Hezbollah and Hamas, there’s so much misinformation about them. I speak to them and my colleagues speak to them. Now, we may disagree with them but they have their own rationality; that’s the one thing to understand.” “These are not — none of them are crazies,” he continued. “They may do things that we may consider to belong to a different realm of rationality but within their own system, it’s often very logical” ( Daily Wire). Alireza Nader: There is a reason the Obama/Biden administrations did not push back on Khamenei & Nasrallah’s power across the Middle East ( Twitter). Tom Cotton: It’s deeply troubling that President Biden would consider appointing Rob Malley to direct Iran policy. Malley has a long track record of sympathy for the Iranian regime & animus towards Israel. The ayatollahs wouldn’t believe their luck if he is selected ( Twitter).

CBO: Inflation Will Hinder US Economy Into 2023
National Review: Inflation will decrease slightly but likely continue into 2023, the Congressional Budget Office said in a report released on Wednesday on the outlook of the economy and federal budget for the next ten years. The consumer price index will hit 4.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared with the same period in 2021, the CBO projected. Inflation will continue to decrease to 2.7 percent by the fourth quarter of 2023. Inflation would thus remain higher than levels recorded prior to the Covid pandemic… The CBO report also projected that U.S. GDP will grow by 3.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared with the same period the previous year, slower than the 5.5 percent pace recorded in the fourth quarter of 2021. GDP growth will likely slow to 2.2 percent in 2023 ( National Review). CBO: CBO projects that the federal budget deficit will shrink to $1.0 trillion in 2022 (it was $2.8 trillion last year) and that the annual shortfall would average $1.6 trillion from 2023 to 2032. The deficit continues to decrease as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) next year as spending related to the coronavirus pandemic wanes, but then deficits increase, reaching 6.1 percent of GDP in 2032 ( CBO).

Oklahoma Governor Signs School “Bathroom Bill”
MSN: Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has signed a bill requiring public school students to use only the bathroom of the sex listed on their birth certificate. About a dozen conservative states have passed laws targeting the transgender population over bathroom use, participation in school sports, and gender-affirming treatments or surgery for young people. The bill passed overwhelmingly in the Republican-controlled House and Senate last week, and Stitt signed it on Wednesday. “It’s about safety, it’s about protection, it’s about common sense,” said Republican Rep. Danny Williams, the House author of the bill. “The goal of this bill is to protect our children” ( MSN). Fox News: The law states that non-compliant school districts could lose 5% of their state funding and also provides parents and legal guardians with an opportunity to file civil lawsuits against school districts who are in violation. Those lawsuits will be investigated by the Oklahoma State School Board ( Fox News).

Harvard Poll Finds Majority of Americans Believe Biden Is Too Old To Be President
National Review: Harvard-Harris finds that 47 percent of Americans believe that Joe Biden is “mentally fit to serve as President of the United States,” with 53 percent having “doubts about his fitness for office.” Among independents, those numbers are 39-61. It also finds that 62 percent of Americans believe that Joe Biden is “showing he is too old to be President,” with 38 percent believing otherwise. Among independents, those numbers are 72-28 ( National Review). Ed Morrissey: With these numbers, Democrats could lose urban districts without either turning on Biden or getting a lot of organizational help, especially since these voters might blame current Democrat incumbents for foisting an unfit old man onto them in the first place. And then think how bad this will be in 2024 ( HotAir).
