This week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott tried to distract America from the terrible mass shooting in his state by slamming Chicago gun laws.

It's a long-standing and tired Republican talking point to try and put a city like Chicago in their mouths and criticize what we are doing.

You see, Governor Abbott was lying about Chicago and what actually perpetuates gun violence. The majority of guns used in Chicago shootings come from states with weak gun laws…like Texas.

People like Greg Abbott would rather place the blame on cities like Chicago than try and solve the problems happening in their own backyard.

And what is infuriating is we know how to stop these attacks from happening as often as they do.

If we do nothing, we all know there will be more and more attacks in the weeks and months ahead. More innocent lives will undoubtedly and tragically be lost.

That’s why the Senate must immediately vote on the commonsense gun safety reforms that the American people have demanded for so long.
