Hi friend,

The last few days have been nothing short of horrific, and I know we are all reeling from the unimaginable tragedy in Uvalde. It’s heartbreaking that this happened in the state I love, just miles away from my hometown of San Antonio.

As we all mourn for the students and teachers who were taken far too soon, I feel so much anger.

I’m angry at the NRA for continuing to line the pockets of lawmakers who peddle garbage and lies.

I’m angry that our Governor went to a fundraiser for his re-election campaign as parents were waiting to learn if their children were still alive.

And most of all, I’m angry at the Texas Republicans who have wasted years of legislative opportunities to take action and instead spent time and tax dollars making it easier for people to access automatic weapons.

In the last two days, there have been at least 10 incidents of potential violence on school campuses across Texas.

Tomorrow, our Governor is speaking at the NRA’s annual meeting in Houston. While he’s there, his constituents will be in the hospital alongside their children, praying for the recovery of their neighbors, or preparing funeral services for their fourth graders.

Our Governor knows this. And he has chosen –- once again –- to abandon Texans in their time of need. He has chosen lobbyists and campaign donors over a community in pain.

Friend, enough is enough. Texas Democrats are demanding that Greg Abbott cancel his appearance at the NRA conference in Houston, come back to Austin, and do his damn job by taking immediate legislative action to pass common sense gun reform.

Sign the petition today to show Abbott that we will not tolerate another life lost to gun violence in our state:

Today was the last day of school for many Texas students and teachers. By the time students are going back to school in the fall, we owe them, their educators, and their loved ones meaningful action. Period.

Thanks for being with us in the fight,
