John, our hearts
are breaking for the families of Uvalde.

We are devastated by the loss of 19 children and two teachers in yet
another school massacre. What happened in Texas was a shameful reminder
that our government has failed (again) to prevent senseless gun violence.

For too long, this country has been suffering under an untreated epidemic
of gun violence that breaks our communities. And for too long, we’ve seen
common-sense gun laws blocked by politicians in the pocket of the gun
lobby.

Change is possible. Cori and House Democrats have already passed multiple
bills that would help stop mass shootings. But these common-sense pieces
of legislation including bills to require background checks and close
loopholes are waiting for action in the Senate.

No more excuses. The Senate must eliminate the filibuster, pass meaningful
gun violence prevention legislation, and save lives. NOW.

Gun violence prevention policies are among the most popular in our
country. New polling conducted after the shooting in Uvalde shows 88% of
American voters support background checks on all gun sales and 67% of
American voters support banning assault-style weapons.

But there is one simple reason these bills are not law: Because the NRA
pays off politicians to block the legislation. To every one of those
Senators, there's a lot of blood on their hands.

If we do not act now, the heartbreaking truth is that more innocent
children and teachers, folks going to the grocery store or church, and
everyday people going about their daily routines will lose their lives to
senseless acts of gun violence.
