Hello —

As a parent, the pain of this moment is indescribable. My heart is heavy for the victims of the horrific tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. We mourn deeply for them, their families, and the community.

This nightmare comes as our nation still processes the mass shooting by a white supremacist in Buffalo less than two weeks ago. And for that matter, the countless acts of gun violence in the two decades since Columbine.

Enough. We can’t keep carrying on like this.

No words can make up for the loss our nation has suffered from these senseless tragedies. Sending “thoughts and prayers” simply isn’t good enough. But I truly believe we can honor those who should still be with us through action.

We must do more to keep weapons from falling into the hands of dangerous people — and Congress can do more. Much more.

As long as I’m in the Senate, I will continue fighting to reform our gun laws at the federal level. We must pass universal background checks, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and enact red flag laws to keep firearms out of the wrong hands. We need to protect future generations from this senseless violence.

With love,

John
