We've been on the phones all week with top Democratic leaders trying to put into words the sense of dread that people feel right now.

Because the national outcry is about gun deaths now -- but it is really the breaking point after we've been through so much together.

The entire system is broken. The will of the people is bucked on every issue from pocketbook issues to voting rights to abortion rights. Moms, dads, and even a famous basketball coach are on TV crying for help, asking why the system is failing us.

Imagine a best case scenario. It's hard to imagine problems getting fixed with the current Electoral College, Senate, filibuster, gerrymandering, and Supreme Court all rigged against the public will.

More depressing, some "leaders" like Senator Dick Durbin are reacting by saying, "We're realists...it takes 60 votes" to get anything done. That shows a complete acceptance of a broken system.

It's hard to know what to do right now, but we're asking your help to get a message out to Democratic leaders: We don't want performative "show votes" that validate a broken system. We're asking Democratic leaders to acknowledge the breakdown of our system. We're asking them to make clear to the American people that they know the solution to guns and every other issue is to ELIMINATE THE FILIBUSTER so the will of the public can win.

Ruben Gallego: Please just stop.. unless you are willing to break the filibuster to actually pass sensible gun control measures you might as well just say 'thoughts and prayers'

Yuh-line Niou: For some people the filibuster is more important than children’s lives, our rights to our bodies, and healthcare. Just saying.

Cori Bush: Today, I spoke at schools across St. Louis about joy and hope, to later see the devastating news of yet another school massacre.
Our work is in saving lives, but the Senate’s inaction is failing. No excuses. Abolish the filibuster and pass meaningful gun legislation. Now.

No responsible hunter wants this.
No Montanan with an elk tag thinks children should die to maintain the gun industry’s status quo.
End the filibuster. Ban assault weapons. Disarm abusers. Pass gun safety legislation. Now.

Bernie Sanders: Enough is enough. We must abolish the filibuster and pass gun safety legislation NOW. No one in America needs an AR-15. How many more children, mothers and fathers need to be murdered in cold blood before the Senate has the guts to ban assault weapons and take on the NRA?

Lucas Kunce: The only vote in the U.S. Senate that matters right now is a vote to end the filibuster. Anything else is just charades.

Julia Salazar: Refusing to do anything to prevent more mass shootings is a deadly political choice today and every day of this past *decade* since the Sandy Hook massacre. Abolish the filibuster.

Judd Legum: 'The filibuster is the only thing that prevents us from total insanity,' Manchin said. How would he describe 18 dead children?
