Friend, we have lost more than a million of our loved ones to overdose in the last two decades because of punitive policies that criminalize people for using or possessing drugs, and because of conversations we have all been too afraid to start. If we’re serious about saving lives, we must have courageous and necessary conversations about legal regulation and safer supply of all drugs.

Drug prohibition has led to an unregulated, unsafe, contaminated drug supply that is fueling the overdose crisis and killing our loved ones, even those without substance use disorders.

Allowing people to legally access a safer—uncontaminated—supply of drugs will let them know exactly what they are getting and would significantly reduce the risk of overdose death. It would give people the right and freedom to put what they want in their own bodies while safeguarding them from both the harms of drug use and drug prohibition. Isn’t this worth investing in?

While we don’t have all the answers, the Drug Police Alliance is not afraid to start asking hard questions and opening this dialogue.

Last week, we sharedDPA’s brand-new strategic plan [link removed] about the next frontier of our fight to end the drug war and build a bridge toward health, equity, and human rights—legal regulation and safer supply of all drugs is a critical part of this vision.

Forward this email [link removed] or share the pages above on your social media. With your support, we’ve started the conversation and can get closer to exploring how to legally regulate drugs the right way by centering the well-being and health of people.

In solidarity,
