john,

As a proud father of three sons and a nephew, I am once again heartbroken and sickened by the horrific school shooting in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. Berna and I send our prayers to the parents, families and friends forced to hold this unspeakable tragedy in their hearts.

But we all know that prayers are not enough. Our country has been through this too many times. Day after day, American lives are stolen because of mass shootings, and politicians offer thoughts and prayers instead of change.

This week, 19 students and 2 teachers were lost because they were shot at school. Earlier this month, 10 Black Buffalo residents were killed in a grocery store. In 2017, 60 folks were killed at a concert in Las Vegas in the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

Enough. We deserve to feel safe in our schools, our places of worship, our communities — everywhere.

Public servants like me must redouble our efforts to repair what is broken in the world. That means ensuring the wrong people can’t get access to lethal weapons.

Not now. Not ever.

I'm the Attorney General of Nevada, and I'll do everything in my power to continue strengthening safe gun practices. It's the right thing to do: for the families who are looking at empty beds tonight, for those affected by gun violence, and for the future well-being of our society.
