Hello again,
Like everyone, I am shocked by the events this afternoon in London which are terrorist related. All our thoughts are with the victims, their families and loved ones, and our grateful thanks are extended to the emergency services.
As ever,

Attenborough Lifeline Appeal launched

I was delighted to attend Sunday's launch of the £1 million Lifeline Appeal at the Attenborough Nature Reserve. Biffa, the waste management company, announced that they have donated £750,000 to secure the purchase of the site from Cemex. Notts Wildlife Trust, who run the Nature Reserve, are now seeking £250,000 to secure its future. Please check out their website for more details about the appeal and how you can donate here

Facts not fake promises

The Conservatives have falsely claimed a brand new QMC is ready to be built. This is not true. In a letter from the office of the Secretary of State for Health, they confirm that Nottingham University Hospital Trust has received "seed funding" to look at the possibility of a rebuild in 2029 - in ten years time.

Stapleford Aldi open at last!

Aldi finally opened their supermarket on Nottingham Road in Stapleford on Thursday after years of planning. I encouraged Aldi to build the store as quickly as possible and held them to their original promise to Broxtowe Borough Council to build 10 new homes on adjacent land. The homes have been built and I'm pleased the store is open in time for Christmas.
Stapleford lights, Kimberley Christmas Market and Nuthall Christmas Lights
The Christmas season is underway; the lights went on in Stapleford last Saturday (I met a friendly angel) and Kimberley's Christmas Market was arguably even better than last years.
I caught up with Father Christmas in Kimberley who was making sure shoppers donated to the Nuthall Christmas Lights fund.
Santa was rather proud of his unique involvement with this remarkable annual event. The Swift family decorate their home and garden on Laurel Crescent with thousands of Christmas lights attracting visitors from near and far. Over the years the family have raised more than £125,000 for Wish Upon a Star and Hayward House at the City Hospital. This year's lights were switched on the other week and have already raised more than £5,000. Santa is in his grotto from 6pm til 8pm every Friday and Saturday evening. He may then be seen putting up his feet indoors.

Campaign Update

In my experience as your MP, the toughest questions always come from school pupils. Today was no exception. Alderman White School Council invited each candidate to answer their questions in individual sessions. My questions ranged from what was the best part of being an MP (helping constituents with problems big and small) to whether I supported school students attending climate change protests (occasionally but you change policies and opinion by engaging in debate and evidence).
My thanks to everyone who organised the event.
THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who has hand delivered my campaign newspaper to every home in the constituency. If you haven't had yours then please let me know. My friend Kate was ably assisted by her son, Fred, who is undoubtedly my youngest helper at 3 months old.
If you can help my campaign to get re-elected (and/or would like a poster) then please let me know.
Postal votes are out!
Postal voters are receiving their papers. If you have not voted yet then please do and I hope you will vote for me.

Here are three good reasons why:

  1. I will continue to work hard for everyone in Broxtowe, as I have done for the last 9 years as your MP.

  2. I will continue to stand up to the abuse and threats from the extremists who are poisoning our politics, further dividing our country and destroying British values of tolerance and compassion.

  3. I have the support of people of all political persuasions who recognise the work I have done as your MP and the need to have strong, principled and  moderate politicians in Parliament. I will continue to represent all my constituents and be your voice in Parliament.

We are living in extraordinary times - and arguably the most divided and troubling times in living memory.

And this is an extraordinary election; this week the Chief Rabbi urged people not to vote Labour because of the anti-semitism in the Labour Party, which Jeremy Corbyn has failed to eradicate. The Conservative peer Michael Heseltine also urged voters not to vote Conservative.

Jeremy Corbyn’s refusal to apologise to the Jewish community (you can watch his interview with Andrew Neil here), his unfunded and cynical policies to buy votes, his pitiful leadership, especially on Brexit, has driven moderate Labour voters to despair.
Labour’s candidate in Broxtowe welcomed Jeremy Corbyn to Beeston on Monday afternoon - he is one of his biggest supporters and a member of the old hard left that has driven out so many moderate, decent Labour MPs and members.

One former member spoke to me on Monday about Labour’s tax plans which will hit even the lowest paid with, for example, the removal of the married persons tax allowance. But the most important reason she left Labour was due to the anti-semitism and extremism.

Boris Johnson is also unfit to be our Prime Minister and cannot be trusted. His own Ministers now agree this election will not “get Brexit done”. It is another meaningless slogan because we either face more years of trade negotiations or a calamitous no-deal Brexit this time next year. It didn't take long for Piers Morgan and many others to expose the fake promise of 50,000 more nurses (you can see part of Piers Morgan's interview with a Government Minister here). Promises of 20,000 more police officers and a new QMC are just as dishonest and misleading.
Johnson’s candidate in Broxtowe will always do his bidding even backing a no-deal brexit.

With neither leader fit to be PM and both parties in the grip of the extremists, we need more than ever MPs from the progressive, centre ground in Parliament.
I believe this is why, in every part of Broxtowe, people of all political persuasions are pledging their support for me and I am honoured and grateful.

If you have a postal vote please join the many people from across the political spectrum who already support me and vote for me today.

The Lib Dems have stood aside in Broxtowe for me and former Parliamentary Candidate Stan Heptinstall MBE has proposed me; Stan was a long serving Lib Dem Councillor in Bramcote and Stapleford and was Mayor of Broxtowe. My friend Ken Clarke has also declared his support kindly saying he has "always been a huge admirer of her efforts as the MP representing Broxtowe... I will be delighted if she is returned to the next Parliament."  I am touched and honoured to have their support.
Precious Aidoo has always voted Labour and she is one of a number of life long Labour voters who have pledged their support along with Leave supporter Harry Fitch from Stapleford.
Yvette Lamb is a Labour voter who has pledged her support and I am seconded by former Green voter Sarah Harker from Awsworth.
I am so pleased Simon Tonks, former Chair of Broxtowe Conservatives, has pledged me his support. Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff, who has previously voted Labour, is now voting for me in this General Election. You can read more about all those who have endorsed me here
I am a founding member of The Independent Group for Change. We are a group of former Labour and Conservative MPs who believe in moderate, centrist politics based on the traditions of social democratic Labour and One Nation Conservatives. We have prepared a document setting out our values, principles and core policies in the General Election. You can read it here.
