Team—
Yesterday, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed into law H.B. 4327, a citizen-enforced total ban on abortion. Upon his signing, H.B. 4327 immediately went into effect. Oklahoma is now the only state in the U.S. to outlaw abortion while Roe v. Wade still stands.
The Center, along with Planned Parenthood and a coalition of Oklahoma abortion providers and advocates, has just filed a challenge to this ban and seeks to block it in court.
Center for Reproductive Rights President and CEO, Nancy Northup, released the following statement in response to Oklahoma's total abortion ban being signed into law:
"We are seeing the beginning of a domino effect that will spread across the entire South and Midwest if Roe falls. Banning abortion after six weeks was not extreme enough for Oklahoma lawmakers. The goal of the anti-abortion movement is to ensure no one can access abortion at any point for any reason. Right now, patients in Oklahoma are being thrown into a state of chaos and fear. That chaos will only intensify as surrounding states cut off access as well. We will not stop fighting for the people of Oklahoma and for everyone across the country. We all deserve the freedom to control our own bodies and lives."
In order to protect abortion rights against these extreme attacks, we need your continued support.
Please make an urgent gift to the Center for Reproductive Rights today as we continue to fight these dangerous bans.
In solidarity,
Center for Reproductive Rights
