Missouri Net News [link removed] Pitts Chapel Hosts Press Conference to Address Hate Crime on Church Property
Last week someone spray painted a black swastika on the south side exterior of Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church in Springfield. Church leadership immediately contacted Springfield police. There is an open investigation into the hate crime. In collaboration with the church and police department, the Springfield Parks Board quickly removed the hate symbol from the church property. In light of the recent hate crime in Buffalo, New York, that left 10 Black people dead and three others wounded, Pitts Chapel leaders, in conversation with the Springfield chapter of the NAACP, decided to host a press conference to make the Springfield public aware of the act of hate in their own backyard. The joint press conference of Pitts Chapel and the Springfield chapter of the NAACP will be at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 27 at Pitts Chapel UMC, 600 N. Benton Avenue in Springfield. It will also be online live on the Pitts Chapel Facebook page at [link removed] [link removed]. Read the full press release regarding tomorrow’s press conference at [link removed] [link removed].
Faith & Race Season 3, Episode 4 Releases Today
Union Memorial was founded in 1846 on three foundations: Love which is a God-given light from heaven, a spark of that immortal fire which angels share. Faith which binds us to the infinite. Hope, the balm and life-blood of the soul. Union Memorial is unique in many ways, such as hosting W.E.B. Du Bois in 1913 and being the second largest structure of its kind in the United States (a hyperbolic paraboloid shell). The congregation at Union Memorial has a long, proud heritage of community-based social justice. Listen in as Rev. Antonio Settles and lay members tell its story [link removed] [link removed]
